Mia Veldhoven, Prose Editor-in-Chief & Website Manager

Mia (she/her) is a graduating English Language and Literature major with a Concentration in Creative Writing. Bringing Issue 4 of Sumac to life has been a joy and every submission she read was full of beautiful prose, great nuance, and powerful emotion. Mia hopes to have a lifelong career as an author and editor.    

Hannah Paterson, Poetry Editor-in-Chief & Illustrator 

Hannah (she/her) is a graduating Honours English, Creative Writing student, with a Minor in History. She is a painter during her free time, and recently started sharing her writing online via her Substack. Hannah is excited to continue connecting with fellow writers and poets after graduation.

Abby Gardner, General Editor-in-Chief & Liaison

Abby (she/her) is a fifth-year English major with a minor in Greek and Roman Studies. In her free time, she likes to read, crochet, and scrapbook. She has a passion for women’s roles in the ancient world, and a fascination with Medea. Previously, she has served as an editor at Carleton’s Corvus and she is excited to bring her knowledge to the Sumac team.

Victoria Tam, Editor & Head Illustrator

Victoria (she/her) is in her final year of a B.A. Honours in English with a Concentration in Creative Writing. For Sumac, she worked as a prose editor and illustrated some of Issue 4’s artwork, including the issue’s cover art. She spends her free time reading, writing, and/or drawing things related to her hyperfixations, or playing video games.

Ash Green, Poetry Editor

Ash (they/them/he/him) is an English Major, fellow writer and poet. Big nerd.

Madison Halladay, Poetry Editor

Madison (she/her) is a fourth-year English major. She is a lover of all things creative and wants to showcase that however she can in this lifetime.

Natasha Sacheski-Tries, Poetry Editor

Natasha (she/her) is in her final year of her journalism undergrad with a minor in English, drawn to anything that keeps her hands moving, from knitting and crocheting to reading and writing. Most of her work is produced under the watchful eye of her two cats.

Myriam Landreville, Editor

Myriam (she/her) is a journalist, writer and artist that never left school.

Bradley Courville, Prose Editor & Illustrator

Brad (they/them) is a fourth-year B.A. Honours student majoring in English Literature with a concentration in creative writing and a minor in Japanese. A lifelong avid reader and writer, Brad is continually striving to someday publish works that might have a lasting, profound impact on someone else. Inching towards daylight, little by little.

Hunter Aitken, Prose Editor

Hunter (he/him) is in his final year of completing a B.A in English as an Honours student. Whether it’s literature, films, or games, he’s a lover of all things “narrative” and can often be found discussing the significance of these with others that care.

Rachel Share, Editorial Manager

Rachel (she/her) is in her final year of her BA in English Literature and is proud to be the Editorial Manager of Sumac’s fourth issue. She is an avid reader and a lover of language and its intentionality. She is thankful for everyone’s hard work on this issue!

Kate Jensen, Coordinating Editor & Illustrator

Kate (she/her) is in her fourth and final year of a B.A. Honours in English Literature, with a double minor in Sociology and Religion. When she’s not daydreaming about book ideas, she can be found lost in a novel, baking, painting, drawing, or spending time outdoors.

Philip Wardlaw, Secretary

Phillip (he/him) is in his final year of pursuing a BA in English with a concentration in creative writing. He loves all that terrifies, and hopes to produce fully-fledged novels. When he’s not writing, he can be found watching movies, and mulling over paleontology!

Katrina Pascall, Promotional Manager & Illustrator

Katrina (she/her) is in her fourth year of pursuing a BA in English Literature with a concentration in creative writing. When she is not writing, she enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors.

Kayla Horgan, Submissions Manager

Kayla (she/her) is in her fourth and final year at Carleton, pursuing a B.A. Honours in Law with a minor in English. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, scrapbooking, hiking, and playing musical instruments – just about anything to preserve a creative edge in light of her future aspirations of law school.

Cassidy (she/her) is in her fourth and final year at Carleton completing a B.A Honours in English Literature with a minor in French. In her next chapter, she will be pursuing a B.Ed at Brock U in hopes of becoming a secondary school teacher.

Maddison (she/her) is a fourth-year Communication and Media Studies with an honours in English. She loves photography, watching movies and spending time with friends. She hopes to one day work in fashion and social media management!
