If you said, long ago when we were
<\/span>young, when the Sun flew like an idol
<\/span>and mothered us, that we\u2019d crouch here\u2026
<\/span>that we\u2019d bang together this composite
<\/span>house\u2014hands on mugs, our porcelain tools,
<\/span>and sink nails into Ikea parts,
<\/span>I might have shrieked chimpish grunt-words
<\/span>at you\u2014become suddenly, bloodily single.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But we\u2019re here, hunched over glue-
bound slabs of sawdust, grain painted on.
The sunset fists through hung blinds\u2014
its knuckleprint on dust fleck gravestones
set in bedframe. We mimic reproduction
on our mattress, grasp thighs and
pin each other down. A haircut
held in wax, stupid-looking
against your nakedness. And the dust
stirs, only to land on the mug-hammers,
so, we speed up our construction.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
